Kate Beckett: She's Armed, He's Dangerous

Today we are taking a jump into the future.  I have done a couple posts and both have been in the past when the world for women was a very different place.  Today a lot has changed for women.  They are allowed to have careers, they are allowed to stand up for themselves and speak what's on their minds.  Relationships can be equal between men and women.  In the media alone we see a lot more of the men being the screw-ups and the women pulling them out of danger. This is seen on comedy's such as According to Jim, Psych, and even on Crime shows such as Castle.

A captain with seven children . . .

http://www.thedomesticatedbachelor.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/sound-of-music-maria-240x300.jpgThis weeks post takes us once again to the past.  Being a women in a man's world is never easy but being a nanny in a captains household is near impossible.  When those children are hellions who can climb into your window with "a whole jar of spiders" you really have something to be afraid of.  So do you run?  Do you quit?  Do you respond to a whistle?  Depends on who you are I suppose.  Strength comes in all different forms.  It sometimes takes shapes of muscle, other times it takes the shape of courage, and in the case of Fraulein Maria it takes the shape of . . . Confidence.

"I'd just as soon kiss a Wookiee"

I wanted the first post of this blog to be about someone early in history, during a time when women weren't known for their abilities to act independently.  A time when even the independent women had to be put in something sexy to get attention; when her words came second to her body.  Before the time when television and movies had women cops, women doctors, women superheroes, even women psychics there was a princess.  Her name was Leia Skywalker.
